After meeting a few kids who knew baby sign language I was convinced it was something I wanted to do with Chimpy when she came along. Now that she’s here I’ve been peppering my talk with gestures. I see her recognizing my speech and considering my signs. It’s been fun. More fun still is recently she’s begun improvising. So I recognize and respond to her signs (they are consistent). Why not? We’ll have plenty of time to argue when she outgrows my taste in music (I give it four years).
